Heart Of It

39″H x 27″w, cotton fiber, stitched. Sleeve on back for hanging.

Artist Statement: As an inspirational artist, Debra finds clues from nature. The Agave dots the southwest landscape and a closer view reveals the center of a simple succulent. The spiraling of the Fibonacci theory intrigues the viewer and captures just how growth and life begin with this central motif. Layering and cutting away give way to a reverse spiral effect as you start from the outside and follows curves to the delicate core. The “Heart Of It” is deep in the heart of Texas for this native Texan. The yellow represents the Yellow Rose of Texas. Debra’s work is an exploration using her experience living in Texas, the Caribbean and the Middle East and formerly practicing Architecture.
